Siddharth Singh

Mr. Siddharth Singh is a PhD candidate at the Mehta Family School of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore. His doctoral research examines how the maternal gut microbiome shapes fetal development, with a particular focus on fetal brain gene regulation, microbial metabolites, and the early biological origins of neurodevelopmental outcomes. His broader research interest is to connect evolutionary perspectives on the human brain-microbiome relationship with experimentally grounded maternal-fetal biology.

Siddharth holds a master’s in biotechnology from IIT Indore and a bachelor’s in Biotechnology from Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal. He is a CSIR-UGC NET Junior Research Fellow. He has received recognition including first prize at the Madhya Pradesh PhD Colloquium and the Best Research Paper Award from the Department of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering at IIT Indore.

As a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellow, Siddharth will investigate maternal microbiome functional signatures by linking transcriptomic and proteomic profiles to fetal development. Through this work, he aims to build an Indo-U.S. research bridge in maternal-fetal systems biology and contribute to future evidence-based strategies for improving child neurodevelopment.

Anam Sabir

Ms. Anam Sabir is a PhD candidate at the Satellite and Aerial Remote Sensing Lab, Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Indore. Her doctoral research focuses on the development of statistical change detection algorithms using time-series data. She applies these algorithms for efficient deforestation alerts, forest-fire scar monitoring and forest carbon monitoring.

Anam is an electronics and telecommunications engineer by training and has been awarded MTech degree in remote sensing and GIS with a specialization in satellite image analysis and photogrammetry from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing – ISRO, Dehradun, in 2022. Anam likes singing and sketching in her leisure time and likes to explore and experiment with world cuisines.

As a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland, Anam is working on 3D forest degradation mapping. She is using NASA’s LiDAR onboard Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) and NASA ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) to monitor vegetation dynamics. Her study aims at combining the two powerful active remote sensing techniques for 3D monitoring of the forests.

Nirmala Menon

Prof. Nirmala Menon is a Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), IIT Indore, and leads the Digital Humanities and Publishing Research Group. Prof Menon is the Chair of J. P. Narayan National Centre of Excellence in the Humanities at IIT Indore and is an affiliate Research Professor with the University of Oxford. She is the author of four books with the latest Practices of Digital Humanities in India: Learning by Doing (Routledge, 2024). She is also the co-editor of the first multilingual volume of e-literature published from India (2024). Prof. Menon has received various national and international grants and awards (MHRD, SPARC, UKEIRI, and Academia Europaea among others). She has also hosted Fulbright Scholars in her lab and along with her students, received international awards such as Charles Wallace Fellowship, Zubaan Sasakawa Publishing prize and ASEM-DUO fellowship.

During her Fulbright Research Fellowship, Prof. Menon will be working on a book project that explores the challenges and possibilities of developing a multilingual scholarly publishing ecosystem. The book examines the infrastructural, economic and intellectual challenges of developing a robust scholarly publishing set-up in the coming years. New technologies along with the rapid advancement of AI tools will shape the direction and policies of scholarly communication in the coming years and this book looks at issues of language and access within that discourse. Prof. Menon will also be working with Prof. Julia Flanders on the DHQ: Digital Humanities Quarterly Journal and contribute to and learn from its best practices.

Samriddhi Saxena

Ms. Samriddhi Saxena is a PhD candidate in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, focusing on the development of oxide cathodes for sodium-ion batteries. Her doctoral research focuses on designing efficient and eco-friendly alternatives to lithium-ion batteries, addressing the critical need for sustainable and scalable energy storage systems. She has expertise in synthesizing and characterizing air-sensitive materials using various structural and electrochemical techniques.

Samriddhi holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru, and a master’s degree from IIT Indore, where she received the Institute Silver Medal for her work on biphasic layered oxide cathodes. She has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship and has presented her research at various conferences, publishing in top journals. She has also worked as a Process Engineer at Hindustan Zinc Limited, leading a Six Sigma project on magnesium removal from ZnSO4 solutions.

As a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology, Samriddhi is hoping to develop technologically relevant sodium-ion-based solid-state cells by employing melt infiltration of solid-state electrolytes into electrodes. Her research seeks to achieve performance metrics comparable to liquid electrolyte-based cells at practical charge/discharge rates, addressing key challenges in solid-state energy storage. This work contributes to global advancements in renewable energy technologies by tackling the scalability and performance barriers of sodium-ion-based solid-state batteries. Samriddhi is passionate about teaching and enjoys traveling, cooking, and gardening.

Avijit Maity

Mr. Avijit Maity is a Ph.D. scholar at the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, Indore. His current area of research focuses on physical insight into novel lipid corona formation and its impact on protein corona formation. His research on the underlying mechanism of lipid corona formation on amino acid functionalized gold nanoparticles has been published in several peer-reviewed international journals. He also won the best oral presentation award in the CHEM-In-house Symposium held at IIT Indore, India.
