Dr. Mehmet Soyer is an associate professor of sociology at Utah State University, where his teaching and scholarship focus on social inequality, environmental sociology, social research methods, and community-engaged learning. His work examines how power, place, identity, and social structures shape opportunity, belonging, and community experiences. Dr. Soyer has developed international teaching and experiential learning initiatives connecting students and communities across the United States, Morocco, and Armenia. His scholarship has appeared in several journals, including Teaching Sociology, and focuses on innovative pedagogy, experiential learning, environmental conflict, and social inequality. A committed educator and mentor, Dr. Soyer has received multiple teaching and undergraduate research-mentoring recognitions. He regularly involves students in research, community partnerships, and international learning experiences. As a Turkish-American immigrant and sociologist, Dr. Soyer also brings a cross-cultural perspective to his teaching and public engagement, emphasizing cultural humility, dialogue, and the connection between local experiences and global social challenges.
