President of India Appoints Fulbright Alumnus as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission

President of India appointed Professor David R. Syiemlieh as a member of the Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi. Professor Syiemlieh took the oath on June 25, 2012. UPSC, a federal body, conducts Civil Services Examinations, Combined Defence Services Examinations, National Defence Academy Examinations, Naval Academy Examinations and Combined Medical Services Examinations. Professor Syiemlieh along with other UPSC members are responsible for spearheading Government of India’s huge pool of recruitment for civil and defense services.

 

Prior to this appointment, Professor Syiemlieh served as Vice Chancellor of the Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh. He has a distinguished academic career of teaching and doing research in History at the St. Edmund’s College, Shillong and also at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. During 1999-2000 as a Fulbright Post-Doctoral Research Scholar, Professor Syiemlieh was affiliated to the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana.
