INDIAN FULBRIGHT ALUMNA AUTHORS BOOK TO PROMOTE HERITAGE WALK

Navina Jafa, 2005 – 2006, Indian Fulbright Arts Fellow to the US has authored a book, “Performing Heritage: Art of Exhibit Walks,” a pioneering work on the technique and art of cultural representation through the medium of Heritage Walks. The book, published by SAGE Publications was released in New Delhi on September 28, 2012 by Sheila Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi and Shigeru Aoyagi, UNESCO Representative to India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. The main issues that are discussed in the book include the significance of “heritage walks” as living exhibits and as manifestation of creative and cultural industry. It also talks about creating awareness and promoting peace initiatives among students and society. The book-release event was featured in several Indian newspapers.

 

As a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Jafa worked on the theme of “Cultural Management and Cultural Diplomacy” at the Smithsonian Center for Folk Life and Cultural Heritage in Washington DC. She is a cultural activist, academician, historian and a renowned classical dancer. To promote experiential learning of India, she has pioneered academic cultural tourism through which she has reached out to several well-known dignitaries from around the world.
