US FULBRIGHT NEHRU ALUMNA RETURNS TO INDIA ON VOLUNTARY WORK

Fulbright-Nehru English Teaching Assistant program, 2011-12 alumna, Abigail Wacker, returned to India in October 2012. During her Fulbright-Nehru tenure, Wacker recognized the challenges of teaching and learning in government schools in Delhi and felt the need to contribute more. She wanted to engage with organizations that work with students from disadvantaged families and aid the functioning of government schools in India. Wacker is currently volunteering at Manzil, a youth empowerment and learning center in central Delhi. At Manzil, she is tutoring school children in the after school program and helping out with the organization’s administration.

During her Fulbright-Nehru tenure, Wacker taught at the Navyug School in Delhi. A native of Maryland, she studied English at Haverford College in Pennsylvania.
