| Dr. Tatjana Good completed her Diploma in zoology and anthropology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1997 and finished her M.S. in science education, University of Zurich, Switzerland. She pursued a Ph.D. from the department of ecology and evolutionary biology at Princeton University where she also earned a Certificate in Science Technology and Environmental Policy from Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. She has worked at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas (IVIC) in Venezuela for 2 years as a project officer/postdoctoral fellow for DIVERSITA, as a Research Associate with IUCN's Global Mammal Assessment (GMA) through the University of Virginia's Department of Environmental Sciences. After being selected as a lecturer on the Spring Voyage '08 with the Semester at Sea, she then received a Swiss National Science Foundation award to pursue a Post Doctrate from the James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. She has published in a range of peer-reviewed journals including Conservation Biology, Physiology & Behavior, and Science. Her interests are: teaching, traveling, yoga, photography and reading.
India faces all the classical challenges of a tropical developing country: a growing population that is exerting increased pressure on natural resources, a fast-growing economy leading to pollution of air and water, problems of erosion and salinization, to name just a few. Ameliorating the situation is very complex as it involves an understanding of politics, socio-economics, and international trade. As a Fulbright-Nehru visiting lecturer Dr. Good will be associated with the Central University of Kerala. During her tenure there she will use real-world examples to cover global issues such as population growth, migrations, economic disparities, depletion of resources, endangered species and ecosystems, and international conflicts. Students will apply these information and skills learned in class to complete their assignments and projects |
