Brief Bio:
Mr. Aditya Voleti studied Mathematics and Sanskrit at Brown University where he was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities and community service programs. He taught ESL classes, tutored math at Hope High School in Providence, and was co-president of the Hindu Students Association. Additionally, he worked in Brown's archives cataloguing Sanskrit manuscripts of the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana written in the Telugu script.  He also worked in the fossil collections of the Rhode Island Museum of Natural History, where he was also an educator, and he was the direct marketing intern for the Brown Annual Fund. Mr. Voleti has been accepted into the Teach for America program and will become a corps member after his Fulbright year.

As a Fulbright-Nehru scholar to India Mr. Voleti plans to focus on the commentaries of Nilakantha on specific portions of the Aryabhatiya (written by Aryabhatta ca. 500), a mathematical treatise. Nilakantha (born in the mid-1400's) was a member of the Madhava school of Kerala, which produced some of India's most famous mathematicians, who focused on the demonstration of detailed proofs and did not view discovery as an act of perception. He will be studying the step-by-step process that Nilakantha used and providing a detailed translation. This will provide important insight into how he approached proofing, and provide new contributions to the study of the history of mathematics.
