Brief Bio:
Dr. Kawatra is presently associated with the Michigan Technological University, where he is currently a Professor and Chair of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Kawatra earned his Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia. His experience includes Julius Krutschnitt Mineral Research Center, Brisbane Australia, Mount Isa Mines, Mount Isa, Australia; Canada Center for Mineral and Energy Technology, Ottawa. He is currently Professor and Chair of Chemical Engineering at the Michigan Technological University. He currently holds patents for the Sequestration of CO2, and for Production of Iron using Environmentally Benign Renewable or Recycled Reducing Agents. He has published 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has received numerous awards: Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration 2008, Graduate Student Mentor Award, Michigan Technological University, 2006, Gaudin Award for Sustainable By-Product Management Treatment and Utilization, Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, Inc., 2003.

As a Fulbright-Nehru scholar Dr. Kawatra will be associated with the Tata R&D Design Center during his course of research. He will teach courses in Advanced Sustainable Iron and Steel Making at Tata R&D Design Center, Pune; Tata Steel Jamshedpur and Areclor Mittal Steel. He will also make visits to CSIR, in Delhi, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar and Kerala. Thermit Alloys, Karnataka State, Mineral Enterprises, Bangalore; Atomic Minerals, Department of Atomic Energy, Hyderabad. These places have excelled in research and will help gather material for his classes.
