| Project Title: | Studies of Arsenic induced Immuno-toxicity in Human Beings |
| Abstract of Project : | |
| Inorganic arsenic is a potent environmental toxicant affecting millions of people exposed all over the world, mainly through the contaminated water. Exposure of populations to arsenic has been associated with a high incidence of detrimental and carcinogenic effects. But there is no such comprehensive report indicating immunological changes with respect to arsenic exposure. The change in immunological status, if any, manifested in arsenic toxicity will serve as early bio-indicator of health status of the arsenic exposed people. The study proposes to ascertain immunological derangement by assessing relative proportion of total T cells--by evaluating host inflammatory response and by monitoring immunological suppression, which can be of help in determining the earliest change of arsenic exposure. The study will provide some information regarding the bio-indicators which will be suitable for timely intervention. | |
