Ms. Kedari P. Reddy received a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Barnard College, Columbia University and went on to obtain a law degree from Rutgers School of Law. She was an attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2's Office of Regional Counsel where she represented the federal government in matters arising under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (commonly known as 'Superfund'), including emergency response, remediation, cost recovery, and Brownfields grants. Ms. Reddy is currently with the New York City Department of Transportation's Division of Legal Affairs where she serves as the Director of the Office of Environmental Compliance Assessment, her responsibilities include developing and overseeing the agency's environmental compliance program. She is also a Senior Fellow with the Environmental Leadership Program.
During her Fulbright-Nehru grant, Ms. Reddy plans to study the effectiveness of India's polluter-pays laws and compare them to the United States' 'Superfund' law and to the United Nations' draft polluter-pays guidelines. A key element of the project is to interview and survey Indian environmental law practitioners to assess the viability of legislation that incorporates pollution prevention incentives. | ||
