Brief Bio:
Dr. Pratyush Bharati is an associate professor and chair of the Management Science and Information Systems Department in the College of Management, University of Massachusetts. He received his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. His present research interests include social media in organizations, green information systems, international software services industry and information technologies in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). His research has been published or is forthcoming in several international journals including Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems, IEEE Computer and IT and People.

As a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Bharati will study the mechanisms that link social media and innovation with the assistance of graduate students, and help foster a cross-cultural exchange of social media scholars and students benefiting both institutions. He will conduct a qualitative and a quantitative study to study the following questions: What are the factors of social media that aid in the harnessing of social capital? What aspects of social media and social capital influence knowledge exchange in organizations? Does social media, as it harnesses social capital, create an environment conducive to innovation?
