The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) provides regional grants under the South and Central Asia Regional Research Program, for research projects of historical or contemporary focus, or is comparative or regional in scope; or where data must be collected in several countries. Fieldwork must be conducted in two or more countries of the region. Projects, which will contribute to the cooperation among countries of the region and involve collaboration with host country colleagues and institutions, are encouraged.
Projects may be undertaken in the following countries in South and Central Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Number of Awards: Up to 6 awards for research in any academic area, in two or more countries of the South and Central Asia.
Duration: Four to nine months
Eligibility: Senior faculty member; appropriate language proficiency needed to complete the research
