Fellowships

Fulbright-Nehru Environmental Leadership Program (Fellowships for US Citizens)

This program provides an opportunity to conduct research in any of a broad range of environmental studies fields and network with Indian counterpart organizations in the environmental or conservation field. Specializations include the fields of: Environmental information and systems reporting; environmental education; environmental policy, regulations and law; environmental sciences and toxicology; environmental management.

Applicants may be from the public, private or non-profit sectors. Special attention will be given to applicants who demonstrate involvement in cooperative efforts between academia, research institutions, government, industry and non-governmental organizations in making practical contributions to environmental policies and programs. Applicants are not required to have an existing affiliation or commitment from an Indian host institution at the time of application, but are encouraged to correspond in advance with potential host institutions. Appropriate placements will be arranged for persons selected for awards who have not made prior contact with an Indian institution at the time of applying.

During their grant period, Fulbright Scholars in the SCA region may apply for a regional travel grant to give lectures at institutions in other SCA countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). This grant will cover travel to and from the destination; lodging may be offered by the hosting university. Scholars may apply for this grant once in-country on their grant, however, they may identify a host institution in advance. As funds are limited, scholars are limited to one such grant.
