SENIOR RESEARCH SCHOLAR PROGRAM
 
 
The program provides grants to U.S. Faculty for research in India. The research can be conducted in any field, including, but not limited to, areas of contemporary study of interest to India and the United States such as astronomy and astrophysics, economic reform, environmental issues, public health, medical sciences, women's studies, law and intellectual property rights.
 
Number of awards:
Ten to fifteen full-maintenance research awards
Duration:
Four to nine months
Eligibility:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent with five or more years' teaching experience.
  • Associate or full professor rank or professional equivalent preferred.
  • Awards are open to practicing professionals
Grant Benefits:
 
  • Maintenance allowance Rs. 60,000 per month (Additional Rs. 5000 is provided as high city cost to Grantees affiliated in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Banglore and Hyderabad).
  • Dependent allowance Rs. 7,500 per month for each dependent up to a maximum of three dependents. Please note that dependent allowance is given only if the dependent stays for a minimum of 80% of the scholars time in India.
  • Dollar supplementation allowance of $1,500 per month
  • Round-trip travel according to USIEF guidelines for grantee and two accompanying dependents (subject to dependents' minimum stay of 80 percent of grant duration in India)
  • Health insurance for grantee only
  • Reimbursable research allowance - grant up to six months $750 and grants between six to nine months $100
  • Relocation allowance of $ 750 
  • Excess baggage allowance
