Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA)

United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) is happy to announce the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) for secondary-level school teachers (classes 9 to 12), teaching English and Social Science at schools in South India (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territories in South India). Selected teachers will participate in a six-week professional development program in fall 2009 (September to November) that will further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board) and United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) will bring outstanding secondary teachers from Eurasia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere to the United States for a 6-week professional development program in Fall 2009 (mid September to early November 2009) that seeks to:  

  • Enhance teachers' expertise in their teaching discipline and equip them with a better understanding of best practices in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, and the use of technology in teaching.
  • Create among educators a better understanding of the U.S.
  • Develop lasting relationships and mutual understanding between U.S. and international teachers and their students.
  • Contribute to improving teaching in participating countries by preparing participants to serve as teacher leaders who, upon returning home, will apply their knowledge and share their experience and skills with their peers and students.
