ABOUT USIEFFresh thinking about international education In the rapidly evolving field of international education, United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) offers a fresh perspective in educational advising, fellowship support and facilitating academic dialogue between U.S. and India. USIEF is committed to promoting dialogue on issues of contemporary interest among Fulbrighters and local communities. USIEF features visiting and returning Fulbrighters at seminars and roundtables, provides forums for interfacing with the civil society through collaborative lectures and facilitates greater communication through e-enabled mediums. USIEF was established under a bilateral agreement on educational exchange signed between India and the U.S. on February 2, 1950. On July 4, 2008, United States Ambassador David C. Mulford and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon signed a historic new Fulbright agreement, making them equal partners and thereby strengthening educational exchanges between India and the United States. USIEF is administered by a bi-national Board of Directors consisting of ten Members, five Americans - nominated by the U.S. Ambassador and five Indians - nominated by the Government of India. The U.S. Ambassador to India and Indian Foriegn Secretary are the Honorary Co-Chairs of the USIEF Board. USIEF has identified priorities for future development with meticulous and strategic planning. USIEF continues to explore viable ways in which the Foundation may respond to requests for services from both Indian and U.S. universities interested in linkages. It continues to reach out to underserved regions and communities. USIEF undertakes following major activities:
Educational Advising Services: USIEF advises students at its offices in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. While basic information is provided free of charge, most educational advising services are supported by membership fees and sponsoring organizations. In addition, USIEF makes available selected library resources on U.S. higher education through satellite centers in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad. USIEF coordinates selected academic conferences and sponsors lectures and workshops involving Fulbright grantees in India. The grants received from the U.S. Embassy helps USIEF to stage South Asian regional roundtables on contemporary topics. Staff contacts for USIEF's main activities are:
