Brief Bio:
Dr. Saramma V. Mathai is a professor of science education at Judson University, Illinois. She has over 25 years of teaching experience in public schools, community college systems and colleges in the U.S. and abroad. She has a master’s degree in physics from Kerala University, India. She earned her Ph.D. in adult education from the University of Minnesota with emphasis in science education. Dr. Mathai’s Ph.D. dissertation is titled, “Self-directed Learning of Math and Sciences Using the Internet”. She has designed and implemented problem-based, self-directed courses in natural sciences using a variety of instructional media. Her scholarship interest is in adult teacher education and science education. She is active in the community through her voluntary work, instructional and inspirational presentations, and workshops.

As a Fulbright Visiting Lecturer, Dr. Mathai plans to design elementary and secondary science education curricula for training Indian teachers through distance education by incorporating the best practices in the U.S. and India. She will also teach curriculum planning and teaching methods for pre-service teachers at Indira Gandhi National Open University centers and offer teaching workshops or seminars for pre-service and in-service teachers.
