Study Objectives:
As an aspiring professional in the area of historic preservation, it is my key objective to revitalize India's architectural and cultural heritage through strategic leadership, education and advocacy. Built environment research and teaching, over the last five years, has made me perceptive of the many challenges facing heritage conservation in the country today. While national development policies focused on economic issues inadequately support conservation objectives, ambivalence towards the non monumental has severely depleted the historic fabric. In a context of fast-paced change, I view it as imperative for conservation specialists to exemplify the value of stewardship in re-signifying our heritage while thoughtfully engaging a broader public. In this direction I intend to pursue a Master's program in historic preservation, with an emphasis on heritage management and planning, in the United States. I hope to successfully synthesize this international training and acquired skill set, to enlighten my future work, in making a meaningful contribution to the heritage sector in India.
